The Auto-Truck Contest was organised by La Camara Sindical del Automovil of Barcelona.
This was the first race of this nature to take place in Spain - and the difficulties in its realisation were huge, one if the main being the state of the roads, not prepared to serve this modern means of transport.
The stages of the race were divided in the following way:
Barcelona - Lerida - 159km
Lerida - Huesca - 151km
Huesca - Zaragoza - 72km
Zaragoza - Alhama - 116km
Alhama - Guadalajara - 153km
Guadalajara - Madrid - 54km
29 Trucks were registered, classified by nation in the following way:
France - 8 vehicles
America - 5 vehicles
Germany - 5 vehicles
Switzerland - 5 vehicles
England - 3 vehicles
Spain - 2 vehicles
Italy - 1 vehicle
Of these 29 trucks, 28 left Barcelona, three retired (one broke down) - 25 arrived in Madrid.
At 10pm on the 21st June, the first truck left Barcelona. The trucks left in a rigorous order of numeration. The heaviest and slowest trucks left first. Each truck carried a commissioner. Various touring cars - comprising of sportsmen, journalists and representatives of the Electrotechnical Centre (which, as always, provided valuable cooperation), Commander Seco and Captains Paul and Hernandez - closed the caravan.
On the departure of the caravan, a telegram of greeting was sent to the King of Spain.
